Elements of Hospice Care

Our dedicated and compassionate nursing staff specializes in clinical care with advanced education in pain and medication management. We provide the medications and medical supplies you require to reduce any discomfort associated with your diagnosis.

We offer assistance with your daily routine, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, transferring, and feeding. Our team of hospice aides has the training required to help you with these tasks while maintaining a high level of personal care and dignity.

Counselors and social workers offer bereavement support and counseling to help you and your loved ones cope with the transition and process of end-of-life care. Your family will have access to a dedicated social worker focused on their needs. If you wish, we also provide spiritual guidance.

As part of our comprehensive hospice care, our health services liaison will work through financial matters with Medicaid, or your private long term care insurance. Our staff will focus on insurance and billing so you and your family can focus on spending time together.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if hospice care is appropriate?

To qualify for hospice care, a patient must have a terminal disease with a life expectancy of six months or less. Patients with end-stage cancer, heart disease, renal failure, pulmonary issues, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other terminal diagnoses may be eligible for hospice care.

When in hospice, can I make my own healthcare decisions?

Absolutely. You and your immediate family will maintain control of your healthcare decisions.

How do I start hospice care?

You should discuss the matter with your doctor, who can provide a referral for hospice care. Next, you and your family will meet with the staff at Village Health Care to discuss specifics and create your unique treatment plan.

Can my hospice care continue longer than six months?

Your comfort and quality of life is our top concern. If pain management and treatment extend your prognosis, we will continue your care.

Is it possible to start and stop hospice care?

If your condition improves significantly, you may choose to stop hospice care. Should you need services again, as long as you meet the hospice requirements, you can resume your end-of-life care with us.

How will I pay for hospice care?

Most private insurance plans cover end-of-life care, as does Medicaid and the Veterans Administration.
